Skully

Concept
Skully is built around a simple yet engaging idea: a skull must navigate a labyrinthine dungeon to free its captured skeleton friends before hostile humans reach them. The twist comes with the playful mechanics—bonking your skull against the floor lures the humans, setting them up for the traps scattered throughout the dungeon. This blend of strategy, timing, and humor creates a fresh take on the classic dungeon-crawling genre, inviting players to think quickly and creatively in a race against the clock.
My Role as Game Designer
As the game designer, I was immersed in every phase of Skully’s creation, from early brainstorming sessions to the final polish. I spearheaded the concept development, ensuring that our core idea—using a bonking skull to lure enemies into traps—was both innovative and engaging. I designed the labyrinthine levels with a focus on balancing challenge and playability, carefully crafting environments that heightened the tension while remaining intuitive to navigate. My work also extended to fine-tuning the gameplay mechanics, where I iterated on enemy behaviors and trap dynamics to create a seamless and strategic experience.
Collaborating closely with my team, I continuously refined our vision, ensuring that each element of the game worked harmoniously to deliver an immersive, action-packed adventure.

Special Thanks
I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to two incredible collaborators who made Skully possible, Liam Boesman & Rufus Steels. Your technical expertise and keen eye for detail helped bring the labyrinth and its inhabitants to life. Thank you for pushing the boundaries of what we thought was possible in such a short timeframe.
